Reconnect: A Woman’s Path to Spirituality

As the month of Tammuz winds down and we look toward Av and Elul, we approach two significant events on the Jewish calendar: Tish b’Av and the Book of Deuteronomy. These months and events are signposts on the way to the High Holiday period. In Deuteronomy, Moses retells the story of the Exodus, reminding us that it is time to begin reviewing the year that is coming to an end. Now is the starting point, the moment to prepare to enter more deeply into teshuva (sometimes translated as ‘repentance,’ but more truly meaning ‘return’) to more closely examine our thoughts and actions, to begin considering how we can fully prepare ourselves for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Reconnect: A Jewish Woman’s Path to Spirituality will meet on Wednesday, July 22 at Temple Har Zion to study, discuss, and deepen our understanding of these events and how they fit into the cycle of the Jewish spiritual year. All are welcome, please contact me directly for directions or more information.

During the month of July, Torah offers us a series of deep, mystical messages: the mysterious red cow ritual, the talking donkey, the first declaration of women’s rights under the law, and the path of 42 (a mystical number in Judaism) camps during the 40 years of wandering.

These stories open us to the opportunity to learn about ritual and its importance in both religious and everyday life, how to recognize and appreciate mystical experiences, and the value of living our personal journeys with awareness and open-heartedness.

Please join Reconnect on June 24, 7:30 PM, (contact me for location and directions) for a fascinating discussion on these topics.

It’s official! Reconnect: A Jewish Woman’s Path to Spirituality is continuing beyond the two meetings funded by the Jewish Women’s Foundation. Beginning May 27, we’ll be meeting at 7:30 pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month to study Torah, women’s stories from Torah and Tanakh, the Divine Feminine, and other topics of interest to the group.  The group is open to all women who are interested in Jewish study and discussion.

Meeting sites may vary, so please let me know if you’re interested in attending or want to be added to the mailing list for regular updates.

Project Reconnect strives to reach Jewish women who want a spiritual connection but haven’t found that in traditional services.  For many of us, reciting prayers written primarily in masculine language, whose meaning and purpose we don’t always understand fails to help us find a spiritual connection with God.  Through Project Reconnect, women will find new understanding and more comfortable language, as well as uncovering truths about women’s roles throughout Jewish history.
